If the employee does not meet the required qualifications within the period designated by the elected official/department
head, typically not to exceed 12 months, the elected official/department head may take the following actions:
(1) Demote the employee to a suitable vacant position for which the employee qualifies and the elected official/department head
approves;
(2) Transfer the employee to a vacant position in the department for which the employee qualifies and the elected official/department
head approves; or
(3) Terminate the employee.
